The evening didn't start as planned. A dust storm rolled across the Bisti Badlands, hiding the stars and filling the air with uncertainty. For a while, I wasn't sure if the night would produce a single photograph worth keeping.
Rather than pack up, I waited.
As the storm moved on, I began hiking deeper into the badlands under the darkness. Hours later, around 3 a.m., the sky finally opened. The Milky Way rose behind these incredible rock formations, transforming the landscape into something that felt more like another planet than New Mexico.
Standing alone in the silence, surrounded by ancient stone and a sky filled with countless stars, reminded me why I continue chasing these moments. They can't be scheduled or guaranteed. They are earned through patience, persistence, and a willingness to keep going when conditions say otherwise.
